Long distance buses in China
In many countries people don’t know long distance buses. But it is easy, the long distance buses create a connection between different cities in China. Sometimes they can drive 14 hours from city to city.
Buy tickets in China
Long distance bus tickets can be bought at the long distance busstation. This is a busstation often located near the city centre and only used for long distance buses. Sometimes tickets can be bought at hostels, or at ticket centers or post offices in a city.
If you buy the tickets by yourself expect a non English speaking reseller. If you don’t speak Chinese, you can take a paper with Chinese symbols. Ask your hostel to write one with the following information.
- Amount of tickets
- City of department and arrival
- Date and time you would like
- Seat or bed
- Your name
- Passport number
Food, breaks and toilet
Most long distance buses stop half-away the ride at a restaurant, where you can eat as much as your want for a fixed price. This can be around 30 RMB (€3,50). We recommend you to take food and drinks in the bus.
Around every 3 hours there will be a toilet break, most toilet will ask you 1 RMB (€0,10) to use the toilet. Expect squat and quite nasty toilets.
